we are getting the first hints of Spring, here in Davis, CA. There are lots of co-eds in shorts and t-shirts. I even put on a skirt today, but i still wear my usual scarf and jacket. is something wrong? i have sneezed a few times in the last hour and i am pretty tired. i wish i could nap rather than go to our "oppressive" acting class in 20 minutes.
i just dropped an airborne into my water bottle and added a dropper of echinecea/goldenseal for good measure. i just can't get sick.
not when my parent arrive tomorrow, Fate and Spinoza opens on friday and we do our workshop on forum theatre with the DRA 5 class on monday.
deep breath and drink up.

Tuesday musings
As I stuff my pie hole with eggs, spinach and left over risotto, I ponder what has occurred in the last week. My schedule is crazy, but I did find time this weekend to head into San Fransisco with Tony and avoid a bar fight. I have to say that I have never been privy to a bar brawl, but I am very happy that no punches were made.
After Orpheus X on Saturday night, Tony and I left Davis, headed west. South west to be exact. We pulled into the city at 11:30 and even without a nap, I was raring to go. We met Tony's friends Meena, John and Liz at a dive bar called Zeitgeist. They were nice and intoxicated and back by the pool table. I should have known something was not right when Liz started erasing some of the names off the chalkboard -- the order of pool players, but I chucked it up to drunkeness.
The guy, Scott who was playing, moved around the table and would have jabbed us with his cue to make a shot if we didn't move out of his way. No "excuse me's" no friendly exchanges, just this jarring dance of him taking us a shot and us not getting hit with his cue. What an ass. I finally said "oh excuse me" in my most sarcastic tone, but there was no response. I decided to just move out of the way.
This game finished with this evil character getting beat by this other dude, Chris. Upon Chris' exit he gave the table to us, since it was technically "open." This made Scott enraged and eventually one of the bouncers came over and intervened. Scott wound up playing our buddy John, but kept smacking his cue on the bench next to me and grumbling under his breath. I have to admit that Scott was an excellent player. He did win the game, yelled "fuck you" and flipped off John as he stormed out. I believe we played a few more rounds before we headed out.
Pie Hole, Chuck, evil characters...I wonder when Pushing Daisies will have a new episode. I miss that show.

A bit of Nostalgia
It's 7:36AM and I am distracted from completing a supporting paper on my character voice for Voice class. I am working on the first section of A Wet Nurse Sings that Margaret Baldwin wrote and performed for Synchronicity's Anton Acts Out in 2003.
After completing the supporting paper for my self-portrait in CORE a few moments ago, didn't move on to my second paper (due in just over 2 hours) but instead I checked my email. Janet Metzger emailed this to her mass list. This is the final weekend of the remount of Anne Frank: Within and Without at The Center for Puppetry Arts in Atlanta.
I'm a little nostalgic right now.

Thursday update
So I really don't have a funny story to share or an issue to mention. However there's a bunch of loose ends that need a little tying. Actually, that's how Fate and Spinoza currently ends. The cast creates an image onstage with these three GINORMOUS easels. A small table sits in front of the center easel with a bunch of 15' red sticks laid across the top. My character, April, bunches them up and ties them in a bow -- as described by the artist David Cornell, aka Spinoza. Then I turn downstage and give my final monologue about memory and forgiveness.
Speaking of forgiveness, I had to "dump" one of my CSA farms yesterday. I decided to go with Nevermore Farm since it's closer to me and they deliver to my house. I think Christine and Randy will jump on the bandwagon on that one. Hopefully there will not be a problem with theft if Deborah leaves them outside my door on days I cannot be home to receive them.
Speaking of theft. Some jerky not only stole MY light off my bike sitting in front of the theatre building, but ALL of the bikes on that rack. Someone suggested that there might just be a kamikaze installation of bike lights. Ah, college campuses and interesting events.
Speaking of interesting events, I performed my self-portrait in our CORE class on Tuesday. Besides using gesture and song, I painted these canvas boards with my hand, foot and face. While the group listened to a Barenaked Ladies sound clip about being jewish, I ran outside in the hallway to clean up and change my clothes -- before I started singing Hard Times. I got quite a few looks from people walking by and Byron from the scene shop actually sang along with me on Hard Times for a line or two. I was super nervous and a tad angry that some from the class dispersed just before I began and I just stood in front of the group in a little yellow skirt and a yellow blouse for WAY too long. I did expect the piece to be funny. But it wasn't. It was well received and it seemed to pose more questions about me than it answered.
Speaking of questions, how the heck did I not realize that I was out of toilet paper?

Stop Hassling Me!
A few of you know that there is always a chance that I will leave this artsy fartsy thing behind and just become a life coach. I am currently working with 2 of my friends on achieving or sticking to their goals. Unfortunately due to my crazy schedule, I cannot offer that to all of you. However, now you can do it on your own. Ah, technology.

Stuck in the Middle
So I love devised theatre. The magic of being involved in the making. However, this sucker is really tedious.
Sitting in the audience of the Main Theatre. From left to right is Matt Moore who plays Spinoza and the 3 ladies who play this very funny teenage girl scene -- Anna Schumacher, my buddy Christine and Rebecca David.
Rinde chats with Carrie (MFA scenic and lighting designer) about design elements. Background includes Bryan Pham, Victor Toman, Sebastian Lagos and Matt Moore.
The others -- just like me -- who sit in the house. Keeping busy. Wait, isn't the stage manager WITH them? Um. Okay.
